The Journey of the Blue Fox is an intimate portrait of survival at the edge of a changing world.

Set high in the Fennoscandian mountains and along the storm-battered coast of the Barents Sea, the film follows the life of a blue Arctic fox vixen as she journeys from birth to independence — and beyond.

Once numbering in the tens of thousands, Arctic foxes in Scandinavia were hunted to near extinction. Today, fewer than six hundred remain. Isolated since the last Ice Age, these foxes are genetically distinct and uniquely adapted to one of the harshest environments on Earth — yet they now face a new and accelerating threat: a warming climate that reshapes snow, disrupts prey cycles, and allows larger competitors like the red fox to invade their last refuges. Over the three years of filming, filmmakers Joosep Matjus and Carl Herdenberg, alongside executive producer and key creatives Katri Rannastu and Dr. Claudia Zenkert worked in close collaboration with researchers and conservation authorities in Sweden and Norway. From fragile cubs in the mountains to a lone young female crossing vast distances in search of food and safety, The Journey of the Blue Fox is the story of a climate refugee — not told through warning or accusation, but through empathy. It is a reminder that survival in the Arctic has always demanded resilience, but that the rules of this ancient world are now being rewritten.
