Turin Horse

Last film of the popular Hungarian director, Béla Tarr. The allegorical titel refers to the horse, which Friedrich Nietzsche beheld on the 3rd of January 1889 during leaving his flat. Not far from him, the driver of a hansom cab is having trouble with a stubborn horse. Despite all his urging, the horse refuses to move, the driver loses his patience and takes his whip to it. Nietzsche walked to the horse and threw his arms around the horse’s neck. His landlord took him home, after that he lives for another ten years silent and demented. The film script was made with the cooperation of the Hungarian Nobel Prizes writer, László Kraszhorkai.
