The Great Mr. Laugh

The Great Mr. Laugh celebrates the silent-era pioneers of moviemaking. Especially the fabulous creations of Charlie Chaplin have inspired this feature, which is made following the format of the early silent-movie principles to the detail. As in the early days of moving pictures, several local (Estonian) extras were cast to work with known professional actors in this feature. The movie creator, Pekka Puolakka, started working on the first script version in 2014, and the actual shooting took place in October 2020 in Tallinn. The Great Mr. Laugh is a classic tragicomedy, which encapsulates the full range of emotions. In the movie, we follow the often tragic and absurd occurrences in the life of the main character, Mr. Laugh; a down-on-his-luck varieté artist. In the twilight of his non-illustrious career, Mr. Laugh tries to find his place in the cold-hard reality of life outside of theatre estrade.
