The Reconquest

Manuela and Olmo were young couple in the high school, with the full illusion (and naivety) of the first love. Fifteen years later, Manuela comes back from Buenos Aires and they meet again, this evening. An evening for being afraid and rise emotions. An evening to say certain things and get along till the night, just one night. Just one night for catch up, chat about all and nothing, to stair in the eyes, to get surprised and enjoy. Just one just one night to retake the future they had promised years earlier as teenagers.

From this romantic premise, “La Reconquista” is a film looking for the time, about the awareness of time, of time lost and time recovered. A film that goes through your skin, making you feel the nostalgia of things that never happened; about what we remember about ourselves and what we don’t remember, about what define us, things we remain faithful and make us how we are. All in a really free narrative story, that brings you to the essential of real small things as you were living an Eric Rohmer’s tale.

Jonás Trueba worked as a screenwriter with Víctor García León and with Fernando Trueba. He also makes music videos, writes and teaches. “La Reconquista” was his first film in Official selection in San Sebastian, a charming and seducing proposal from the director considered one of the most promising from Spanish cinema, who is indeed already a reality.
