For the first time in the 18-year history of the festival, the selection of films for the main competition was not dependent on the tastes of one person, but instead, the selection was made by a 3-member jury. While choosing the main competition programme, the jury treated each film as an artistic whole, drawing their assessments from the quality of each individual film.

L'ALFABETO DELLE COSE PICCOLE
Austria, Italy 2015, 4’
Dir: Linda Wolfsgruber, Federica Pagnucco, Thomas Renoldner

EMPTY SPACE
Estonia 2016, 10’
Dir: Ülo Pikkov
Prod: Kerdi Oengo
The film invokes a past memory; an apartment that once existed; and a small girl dwelling and playing there. It presents a story forged in the dreams of a father hiding from Soviet terror. It is a reconstruction of a vision, with a backdrop of the anxieties present in 1950s Soviet Union.
CHATEAU AU GO GO
USA 2016, 4’
Dir: Steve Gentile
Prod: Steve Gentile
A kinetic romp that investigates the images imprinted onto wine corks. This animated, macro-photographed film becomes a sort of frenetic history lesson that alludes to the human impulse to tame nature.
SATIE’S PARADE
Japan 2015, 14’
Dir: Koji Yamamura
Prod: Koji Yamamura
A parade for three managers and four performers. Mixing quotes from French composer Erik Satie’s essays with the ballet music “Parade,” this film is an animated re-creation of “realist ballet” images going beyond reality.
